Little Wonders

It's been a couple of months since i've "blogged" b/c it takes so long for me to gather my photos and thoughts at the same time! I read other blogs that are deep and thoughtful and wish mine was, but i'm just an "updater" i've decided... I like sharing the pix with family and friends that i miss dearly.. so here you go...

The Short:

Ski season is over. Mom's got game. You can make a cool treehouse anywhere. According to Noah, Andy is a "tramp-hazard" - even though it was 2 (Noah and friend) against 1 (Andy). Friends of friends are the BEST when medical attention is necessary!

The Long:

Little Wonders was a song off the Meet The Robinsons movie we just watched while home with Noah and his 103 fever for 3 days... lucky me, i LOVE movies as much as he does! Anyhow, i decided to call this Little Wonders since we've noticed a few in the past weeks/months...

We've definately settled into Colorado life and celebrated a solid year this week in this home! I can't believe how time goes by... Dan still loves his work, and still has work and i'm still a sr. companion with Mr. Wirt. The boys will go to work with me some and play some this summer and i'll have Mondays off, so we're looking forward to summer activities and only have one week left of school!

Enjoy the notes from our (recent) past activities and note the
Little Wonders (LW) that are numbered below:

Amazing Snowy Views until April...

One of the few pictures i took on our family ski days. I took Andy alone a couple of times, but Noah wouldn't skip school! His teacher takes full credit for that... justifiably! They both love school, but ski days were a blast and BEAUTIFUL!! (This was at Snowmass, my favorite!)

The cousins (MacKenzie and Jefferson) came up with Mom and Dad H over Spring Break and we gladly shared the mountain with "J" who snowboarded all day - what a blast!

LW #1 Where were all of our ski adventure friends?

Happy Early Birthday (in July!)
Mom and Dad H bought the boys a basketball hoop after Andy said, "I don't want anything for Christmas or anything else, all i really want is a hoop." Grandmom said, "i'll get it now!" haha! We surprised the boys while they were gone at a bday party and daddy couldn't get it built fast enough!

NOTE: Mom won the first, official game of "P I G"!! I knocked out the boys first, then Dan! HA! The boys were pretty impressed with my "backwards, over the head" shot!

LW #2 Why were they surprised?

Treehouses ROCK!
Well, after two homes with LOTS of acreage and 6+ years of dreams of treehouses/treeforts, we move to a little house with a little yard with a few trees and get one built! hee hee! The boys worked tirelessly on it and it was great to see the teamwork... after the following video (click on arrow) Noah spent one afternoon painting all the wood pieces, too! Needless to say, even though i didn't get the follow up video, the swing didn't work and duct tape can't do everything... The tree should survive...but will they??

LW #3 WHY can't duct tape hold a swing, even with nails?

A Simple Equation

So, the treehouse is stable and they love it, but a week later while playing at a friend's house...

well, I'll just give you this equation:

3 boys + 1 trampoline + 0 safety nets = 2 broken bones + 5 weeks of a bright blue cast - 2 soccer games - 5 baseball games...

Poor Andy, but he's been a great sport about it so far... Noah's version of dealing with his brother's pain (at the time of the accident, with us 20 minutes away) was to suggest playing with the friend's Wii, "So (he) wouldn't think so much about how sad (he) was for Andy". BALONEY!! He says he was thoughtful though by letting Andy pick which game they played! So typical!! haha We all deal with pain differently, don't we??

Sadly, Andy had to wait til the next morning to be casted since we weren't totally convinced it was "broken". I pictured a protruding bone and it just looked swollen...of course, Dan knew it all along! yeah, right...
Then 3 1/2 hrs after we picked him up and just had ice on it we were putting him to bed we heard, "well, i tumbled off and tried to protect my head so i put my hands down...and when i got up it looked like this," and he showed the shape of a "V" from his wrist to elbow! 3 1/2 hrs LATER! we heard this tiny, little detail! it was then 8:30pm Sunday so we went to bed feeling like rotten parents and guilt-ridden... BUT justified it with the fact that he wasn't in pain and he fell right to sleep and never woke up til morning! Sorry that i didn't get a good 'before' arm picture.. you really couldn't tell...(Dan disagrees)

Thankfully, a good friend (nurse) had a good friend (orthopedic nurse) who got us in the next morning...

X-ray prior to casting...

X-ray after the casting...pray it heals right!

LW #4: How did we get to age 8 without this happening earlier!?

LW #5: When did X-rays go digital?

LW #6: Waterproof in 10 different colors?????

The Dr. said he has a very high pain tolerance and was impressed... so we went out to dinner (Andy's choice) then straight to Wal-Mart for the silver Sharpie for school the next day!! He was pretty popular! That's when Noah wrote: "Tramp Hazard" on Andy's cast! Look close to see what Daddy wrote...we couldn't even wait til we got to the car!!

There you have it, the Ostrom's first quarter of 2009 in a nutshell!! Feel free to email us at ostromfamily@yahoo.com -- we love to hear from you and send a photo or two!!

LW #7 Why haven't you emailed already??

Hi Kay,

You're amazing. I'm avoiding the bag of mail I've collected over the past month and reading your blog before I tackle my chores...Seemingly, I'm practicing avoidance and denial:)

Cheers,
Kim
